Wenn Hamlet plötzlich anfängt, Zeilen aus einem ganz anderen Drama zu sprechen, dann muß auch Ophelia ihren Text ändern, um den Ganzen einen Sinn zu geben, und die Vorstellung verläuft danach in ganz anderen Bahnen. Es könnte passieren, daß die beiden dann gemeinsam fortgehen, anstatt ständig um das Schloss herumzuschleichen. Das mag vielleicht ein schlechtes Stück sein, vermutlich ist es aber ein besseres Leben

If Hamlet begins to use lines from Abie´s Irish Rose, Ophelia has to change her lines, too, in order to make sense of it, and the whole performance will proceed differently. The two of them might then take off together instead of skulking around the castle — a bad play, but probably a better life.
